In the tundra there are 4 main endangered species and 3 main endangered pants. They are the Polar Bear , Arctic Fox , Arctic Peregrine Falcon , and the Eskimo Curlew. The three plants are Aleutian Wormwood , Bering Sea Douglasia , and the sessile leaved scurvy grass
The cause of the polar bears endangerment is mainly Climate Change .Polar bears need the ice , the use is to store energy to hunt the also use it when food is scarce. Now when the ice is melting earlier in the spring ice form in the autumn so the bars have to spend longer times without food that makes unhealthy. Polar bears cant reproduce and when hey do most likely the cubs will die.The WWF are making a dens so the bears could feed have there cubs and survive.
this graph shows how the sea ice is melting so that where the polar bears live if there ground is gone then the polar bears drown in the water. The arctic tundra is getting effected because the ice is melting theirs no ground .
The Arctic Fox
The arctic fox is endangered because of its food source. They eat the lemming. A lemming is a thick rodent that is related to a vole and lives in the arctic tundra. The lemming population fluctuates up in down the fox cant have a steady food source. Also they are getting effected by climate change. Just like the polar bear the arctic fox is also getting effected by climate change because of the ice turning into water .The "Defenders of Wildlife" are putting in national legislation to take immediate forces to help this animal.
The graph show's that the number of arctic fox to the number of lemmings. As you can see they go up and down so they cant keep a steady diet. The biome is also being effected because if the ice melts sea levels rise if sea levels rise that cause more floods.
The Arctic Peregrine Falcon
The cause of the peregrine falcon endangerment was pesticides mainly DDT. DDT is a chemical pesticide that is sprayed on farmland , when it was sprayed it got into the water which effected the fish and other small birds. Peregrine falcons are large consumers so they would eat so much of it they would die.Since DDT was banned the falcon has been regenerated.
This graph show the arctic peregrine from 1960 until now as you can see they are going back up where they should be.
Eskimo Curlew
The Eskimo curlew was once the most abundant flock of birds now that the rocky mountain grasshopper is extinct they have a hard time finding food. Also they have a loss of habitat due to forest fire. They are being protected by the Kansas Non game. They are protecting them by putting them into wildlife parks.
The graph is showing the curlew annual population and its doing good, because the curlew is repopulating.
Aleutian Wormwood
The Aleutian Wormwood is a plant the is endangered. Its is endangered because of the caribou. The caribou are eating it all and it's habitat is very specific because to where its habitat is.Right know its in a Alaskan refuge where its being protected
Bering Sea Douglasia
This plant is in endangerment because of animals eating it just like the Wormwood .The Bering Sea Douglasia is being protected in captivity.
sessile leaved scurvy grass
The sessile leaved scurvy grass is being washed away because it grows near the coast and since sea levels are rising its been going down for the plant . Its been in captivity to save it.
